Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps (what is it and why is it good)

April 18, 2012

The WordPress Google XML Sitemaps plugin allows for creating a really cool map of your site that helps all of the search engines to thoroughly index and rank your blog site.  Having a map of your website allows the search engine bots, crawlers, and spiders to more easily read your site and understand its navigation.  This is one of the best plugins to have on your site, as it will support almost all WordPress pages and it also will support your custom made URL.

What Does it Do?

This plugin will automatically create pages with the URLs that were just updated; it will include any recent changes, and will give priority to any links that you have published.  Each and every time you create a new Post, Page, or even just edit your existing posts and pages, it will send notifications to major search engines.  You can also opt to include the robot.txt file that communicates the whereabouts of your site’s pages to the search engines.  Best of all, it is totally customizable.  You are even able to import or include pages that are off of the actual WordPress site.

Why Should You Use It?

If you don’t already, you will learn that the number one rule of SEO is that your pages and posts are indexed by the search engines as quickly as possible.  If this does not occur, people will not be able to find you on the internet.

Almost immediately after installing this plugin, you will be able to see the benefits.  It will drive more traffic to your blog and your visibility will have increased exponentially.

Blogging is one of the best free methods of branding you, your products, or your services.  When you learn how to effectively blog, you will greatly enhance your business and your ability to earn income online.
